Levi Clay was born in 1988 in Ipswich, UK. Although he came from a musical family, he focused on his academic studies until picking up the guitar at age 14, what began as a hobby quickly turned into a passion, with hours each day spent studying books and magazines to hone his craft.
By 16 he was already teaching, approached by his own high-school teachers to work with their children. After his first formal classical lessons in college, he moved to London in 2008 for a degree in Popular Music Performance, and by graduation he was transcribing music full-time and leading courses at the Guitar Institute.
Levi went on to release instructional DVDs with LickLibrary, wrote the long-running Beyond Blues column for Premier Guitar for five years, and became an internationally best-selling author of his own instructional books, all while transcribing for some of the biggest names in music.
Now based in Scotland, Levi remains active as a performer, educator and journalist, playing both guitar and piano, with a YouTube channel that has attracted millions of views. Blues, rock, country, jazz, metal, soul, Levi is a go-to resource for music education across styles.
