C Shape: 12 Keys

We’re back with another circle of fourths workout—same concept as last week, but this time using the C shape from CAGED. It’s deceptively challenging, especially when you’re trying to stay a step ahead of the key changes. This routine reinforces harmonic motion and strengthens your grip on key centers through pure repetition and focus.

E Shape: 12 Keys and Beyond

This week’s routine uses the familiar E shape as a launchpad for navigating the neck through extended positions and string shifts. You’ll trace the circle of fourths while exploring how the E shape connects to others—training your ears and fingers to move with confidence and intention.

12 Keys Finale!

This week wraps up our circle of 4ths series by combining all previous shapes—E, C, hybrid—into one improvised, nine-minute scale workout. The challenge now is tracking key changes in real time while moving fluidly through positions without hesitation.

Rhythm Changes Pt. 1: Chords

We’re digging into the A section of Rhythm Changes by mapping out the root motion across the I–vi–ii–V, including a common jazz reharm in bars 5–6. Keep it simple, stay with root notes, and get these shapes under your fingers before we build more vocabulary next week.

Pentatonic Transitions

Back in B minor with the Strat and some overdrive, this week’s routine dials in position shifting and phrasing across the entire neck. Using the minor pentatonic as a vehicle, we explore transitions, 3NPS connectors, and single-string drills to build fluency and feel. Think of this one as your roadmap to instinctive, musical soloing—no matter the genre.

Drop 2 Chord Scales

Pat Martino’s spirit meets top-string drop 2 voicings in this week’s routine—a chord melody workout that sharpens your ear and deepens your harmonic control. We’re focusing on melodic voicings where the top note guides the line, using inversions and diatonic chord scales across major and minor families. Listen close, play slow, and let the melody lead the way.

Stand By Me: add9s

We’re expanding our Stand By Me triad work by introducing add9 arpeggios to bring more color and shape to your lines. You’ll explore each chord using a 1–2–3–5 structure, adding subtle chromatic touches and emphasizing the 3rd to craft more expressive phrasing.

7th Chord Mastery

The 7th Chord Mastery course takes you through everything you need to know about 7th chords, from their theory and construction to practical shapes you can use right away. We’ll start with shell voicings on the E and A strings, apply them to Duke Ellington tunes for a real musical context, and then move into CAGED forms, drop 2, and drop 3 voicings. Along the way your hands will get stronger, your ears will sharpen, and you’ll gain the confidence to hear, play, and apply these chords in any setting.

7th Chord Arpeggio Workout

The 7th Chord Arpeggio Workout course is designed to build fluency, technique, and fretboard awareness through focused major 7 arpeggio practice. We work step by step through the essential CAGED positions, exploring variations and learning how to connect them across the neck. Each routine develops alternate picking, interval recognition, and the ability to hear and apply chord tones in real time.

Start Course

Major Pentatonic Workout

The Major Pentatonic Workout focuses on building a clear, musical understanding of the major pentatonic scale and how it connects directly to triads and chord shapes. We work through all five positions, apply the sound over chord progressions, and explore how major pentatonic relates to minor pentatonic and blues language. The goal is fluency and sound awareness, so you can confidently find and use the right notes anywhere on the neck as the harmony moves.

The Modes

*More Modules To Come
The Modes course takes the mystery out of modal playing by showing how to hear each sound, apply it over real chord movement, and connect it directly to the fretboard. Beginning with Mixolydian and now expanding into Dorian, the lessons focus on chord context, arpeggio connection, and non diatonic movement so each mode feels like a usable colour rather than a memorised pattern. This series will continue to grow, gradually expanding to cover all seven modes and build a complete, practical modal foundation.
